Maintenance & oil changes
How often should I service my vehicle?
Follow your owner’s manual and maintenance minder. The correct interval depends on your engine, oil specification, mileage and driving conditions. Lake Country Auto Care can help plan service around Wisconsin winter starts, short trips and your vehicle’s history.
Should I use synthetic or conventional oil?
Use the oil type and viscosity specified for your engine. Many newer vehicles require synthetic oil. Bring your vehicle details to Lake Country Auto Care and we can help identify the correct specification.
Can you help me maintain an older vehicle?
Yes. We service many older foreign and domestic vehicles. We can review the condition, service history and mileage, explain urgent concerns and help you plan upcoming maintenance.
Do I need every fluid changed at the same mileage?
No. Engine oil, coolant, transmission fluid and other fluids have different requirements. We use your vehicle’s maintenance schedule and condition to determine what should be checked or serviced.
Warning lights & starting problems
What does the check engine light mean?
The vehicle has detected a fault that needs diagnosis. A code identifies a condition or system, but it does not always identify the failed part. Our Pewaukee shop can test the underlying cause and explain repair options.
What should I do if the check engine light is flashing?
A flashing check engine light can indicate a serious misfire. Reduce load, pull over safely and contact the shop for guidance. If the engine runs roughly or the light continues flashing, avoid driving and arrange transport.
Does a no-start problem always mean I need a battery?
No. Battery condition, connections, the starter, charging system and other faults can prevent starting. Lake Country Auto Care can test the starting and charging system before recommending a replacement.
Should I keep driving if my engine is overheating?
Pull over safely and shut the engine off. Continuing to drive can cause serious engine damage. Do not open a hot cooling system. Contact the shop and arrange safe transport if needed.
Brakes, tires & suspension
Why do my brakes squeak or pulsate?
Possible causes include worn pads, rotor condition, hardware problems or debris. Lake Country Auto Care can inspect the brakes and explain the findings. A noise alone is not enough to determine which parts need replacing.
Is it safe to drive with a sinking brake pedal?
A sinking pedal or reduced braking can indicate a serious brake-system fault. Stop driving when it is safe to do so and arrange transport to a repair shop. Do not assume the problem is only worn brake pads.
Why is my car pulling to one side?
Tire pressure, alignment, tire wear, brake drag or suspension wear can cause pulling. Our shop can inspect the vehicle to determine whether it needs alignment or another repair.
How do I know whether I need tires or an alignment?
Uneven wear, vibration or pulling can have different causes. We inspect tire condition and related steering or suspension components. An alignment will not repair a damaged tire or a worn suspension part.
Heating, cooling & transmission
Why is my car’s air conditioning blowing warm air?
Warm air can result from a refrigerant leak, electrical fault, airflow restriction or another A/C system problem. Lake Country Auto Care can inspect and test the system before recommending service.
Can I ignore a small coolant leak?
A small leak can become an overheating problem. Let the engine cool and contact our shop for an inspection. Do not remove the radiator or expansion-tank cap while the system is hot.
What should I do if my transmission slips or shifts roughly?
Contact Lake Country Auto Care and describe when the symptom occurs. We can inspect the vehicle and discuss the next step. If the vehicle will not move normally, leaks heavily or displays an overheating warning, arrange transport instead of continuing to drive.
